What is Terrarium and how it works?
A Terrarium is a closed Eco-environment.
I always like to call them as ‘Miniature Garden’ or “Self-sustained Garden”– they are a collection of plants growing in a transparent sealed container.
Terrariums are self-contained Eco-Systems with their own micro-climate. Let us not bore you with any biology lesson now, to put it simply, during the day, the plant takes in carbon dioxide it has produced at night and makes food, resulting in the formation of oxygen and water droplets.
The water droplets condense on the walls of the container and drips back into the soil and moisten it. As long as the container is enclosed and the internal environment is suitable for the plant to thrive, this closed-environment can go for months unattended without watering it for a long period of time. You can now go for holidays for a period of time and leave them unattended; they will still thrive happily when you come back. They need nothing from the outside except a little indirect sunlight or room light.
